Englewood (CO), Dec. 20, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE). The holidays are fast approaching but that doesn’t mean that the environment isn’t top-of-mind to many Americans. Revolution Digital conducted a recent Bona survey of nearly 1,300 Americans and found that 56 per cent of them are likely to forgo holiday traditions in favor of the environment. This is compared to 14% who were highly likely, 14% who are likely, and 31% who are somewhat likely.

Respondents were asked which of the following was most important to help the environment during the holidays: conserving energy by using LED lights/putting lights on timers (61%), cleaning with safer products (51%), and reusing/recycling wrap paper (47%). Respondents rated this as helpful in a close fourth place, with 40% indicating that they would reuse an artificial tree or plan to recycle a live one. One respondent said they would cut down on the tree and make it more sustainable this year, further demonstrating the importance Americans place on creating positive change for the planet.

Heather Lindemann, Bona’s global senior communications manager, stated that small actions can make all the difference in creating a better planet. It’s encouraging to see Americans keeping the environment in their minds during this holiday season, whether they reuse wrapping paper or use safer products to clean.

Nearly half of respondents indicated that they are interested in environmentally-friendly purchases and behaviors.

  • 44% of people are planning to reuse artificial trees or to recycle live trees

  • 39% energy conservation by LED lights or setting up timers for lights

  • 37% Local shopping

  • 37% recycling or reusing wrapping paper

  • 27% cleaning with safer product

One in four respondents (28%) reported that they clean twice as often during holidays than usual. This is a clear indication of the need to use safer cleaning ingredients. The 25-34 year-old group was also the most likely group to consider cleaning with safer products for a sustainable holiday season (37%), which is nearly twice the number of those aged 65+ (20%).

Bona is committed to innovating products that leave floors sparkling clean and safer for pets, families, and the planet. We hope that consumers will look for products that have a minimal environmental impact, as there is more cleaning during winter and holiday seasons.
