Ford announces $1B funding boost for infrastructure
If the Examiner’s accomplished photographer ever gets around to a compendium like “Clifford Skarstedt: Moments,” I do hope his Dec. 9 front page photo of Premier Doug Ford and Environment Minister David Piccini makes the cut. Ford is promoting the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund, to which he is receiving a lot of self-congratulatory applause. For me, the meta caption is “Aren’t I wonderful!””.
Is the OCIF somehow connected to environmental issues and stewardship which are front and center for Picinni? Are we watching men who protect our forests, our water quality and all of the natural infrastructure upon which our survival depends?
Evidently not.
The OCIF covers “rehabilitation roads, bridges and water infrastructure”.
Ford wants to replace the Westwood Bridge despite residents’ desire that it not be torn down, but he is determined to make the story happen.
Our premier appears to be a businessman with close ties. Conservation has been pushed to the sidelines by this regime. Piccini has so far come across as a Ford minion, who is not much more grounded in fact than Donald Trump.
Piccini’s Dec. 13 tweet: “Today I represented #Ontario in the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment for discussion our province’s leadership in #ClimateChange and create opportunities to green economic recovery.”
I would love to have been a fly on the wall when the Council of Environment Ministers from out of province debriefed after Piccini’s outrageous claim of environmental leadership.
Piccini is a lap-dog, but it might be difficult to find a lap for him in this fat-cat provincial cabal.
