Ford’s actions have harmed the environment

Senior citizen, I am alarmed by the Ford government’s attack upon the environment and irresponsible refusal of tackling climate change. Last week’s Ontario budget does nothing to reduce my concerns. It is clearly a budget that will win an election. It is not a budget that will protect the province we leave for future generations.

The government’s record regarding climate change is not good. Premier Doug Ford took the first steps to eliminate renewable energy programs, abolish the office of the environmental Commissioner, and remove protections for conservation authorities. The situation has gotten worse with subsequent actions to increase highways and urban sprawl. Because the Ford government refuses to acknowledge that there is a climate emergency, it acts as though there isn’t one. Ontario is now at the point of moving the Titanic’s deck chairs. Ford is increasing engine speed while burning the lifeboats. The budget clearly shows that Ford’s government is not changing its route.

Voting out the Ford government is the most important climate action any Ontario voter can make this year. I hope that my seniors will also agree to vote when they go to the polls.
