SPRINGDALE, Ark. Tyson Foods announced that 44 of its plants including the Amarillo beef-plant have been honored by the North American Meat Institute, NAMI, for their positive environmental impacts.
According to a news release, the environmental recognition awards recognize a company’s commitment to continuous environmental improvement as demonstrated by the development and implementation Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
The EMS model was created to drive continuous, measurable improvements in environmental compliance performance at Tysons operations. The model also tracks progress in reducing Tysons carbon footprint, water intensity per pound of product, and reduces waste sent to landfills. It also helps to find ways to extract value out of secondary materials.
It’s an honor for Tyson to be recognized for the positive steps it is taking to improve environmental compliance results. And we are proud of the hardwork of each of Tyson’s plants as they strive to sustainably feed the world. Kevin Igli, SVP, Chief Environmental Officer at Tyson Foods, said that it was an honor to have been recognized. These awards reflect Tysons commitment to protecting the environment, and making a positive impact in the communities where Tyson Foods operates.
Tyson Foods was one of 44 recipients of awards. We are committed to ensuring that our operations are environmentally sustainable. Julie Anna Potts is the President and CEO at the North American Meat Institute. We look forward learning more about Tysons efforts through the Meat Institutes Protein PACT, For the People, Animals and Climate of Tomorrow, where we will track the industrys progress toward meeting its sustainability goals.
To encourage EMS development, the recognition awards are divided into four tiers. Tier 1 is for compliance policies. Tier 4 is for the highest level environmental management.
