Emporia’s Tyson plant was recently recognized for its positive environmental impact.

It was announced Thursday that Emporia’s plant was made a recipient of the North American Meat Institute’s Environmental Recognition Awards. According to a news release, the award program recognizes companies who are dedicated to continuously improving the environment “as witnessed by the development and implementation of Environmental Management Systems (EMS).”

Tyson Senior Vice-President and Chief Environmental Officer Kevin Igli says, “These awards reflect Tysons dedication to protecting the environment and making a positive difference in the communities where we live and operate.” A total of 44 Tyson plants in North America were recognized with the award leading North American Meat Institute President and CEO Julie Anna Potts to call Tyson “a bold example for the meat and poultry industry.”

The recognition awards are divided into four levels. The first recognizes compliance policies while the fourth represents the highest level in environmental management. Emporia was awarded tier 1 for the case-ready and value added plants.
