Brenda Wolfskill (Environmental Protection specialist, Training Specialist with the Plans and Operations Branch) has been integrating QR code into the monthly report. Fort Knox Environmental FocusNewsletters, marketing materials, and posters have been in existence since 2019.

Our QR code Quick Links poster can be hung in work areas to help us reach a wider audience. It also reduces the time spent searching for important information and reduces the need to print out complete handbooks. Simply click to connect. Wolfskill explained that it’s easy. Our primary goal is to ensure regulatory compliance. This is done through education, inspections, sharing information, and sharing.

We can use any avenue to communicate our message of sustainability and conformity to the community. This will allow us to save money and reduce environmental liability for the installation.

QR codes allow users connect to important information and other useful information using their cell phones, without the need to remember lengthy URLs.

EMD created a poster, which includes QR codes for important environmental topics as well as common areas of noncompliance. Wolfskill stated that it is gone days when people had to search for a handbook or spend time looking for the right information. Now they can simply point their camera phones at the QR code, and hit enter if necessary.

She claimed that she even made their business cards digital with interactive access links for chat via email, MS Teams, and other means.

We must incorporate new advances into our business operations if we want to move ahead, Wolfskill said. QR codes are a great way to do this, he added. Change is required; energy is what makes the world go round.

The Army Environmental Policy includes three pillars. They are Pollution Prevention, Compliance with the Law, and Continuous Improvement.

Wolfskill explained to Wolfskill that the top priorities for the division are conservation and sustainability, such as preventing pollution and reducing the amount waste created by the installation. She believes that they can accommodate Soldiers and Fort Knox by changing to use changing technology.

Wolfskill reports that QR posters have received a positive response. QR codes can also be used in other areas.

QR codes allow Fort Knox and our Soldiers to quickly find the right information. Wolfskill said that they reduce the time required to find information in an environmental emergency or in everyday tasks. This tool enhances our ability to support Soldiers in mission successes, streamlines an outdated process, as well as fulfilling the third pillar our environmental policy.
