Dr. Kevin M. Anderson Austin Water Center for Environmental Research. Alexander von Humboldt: Culture and Science.

Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859), was appointed by King of Spain to conduct the first comprehensive scientific exploration of Spanish America in 1798. Humboldt stated that I would collect fossils, plants, and make astronomic observation. However, that is not the main purpose. I will also try to discover how the forces of nature interact with one another and how the geography influences animal and plant life. Also, I want to discover the unity of nature.
