The British Plastics Federation has released the following statement in response the United Nations Environment Assembly’s recent announcement regarding a global treaty on plastics.

“The United Nations Environment Assembly’s proposed treaty marks an important step on the journey to end plastic waste ending up in the environment. The plastics industry supports the idea of an international treaty and shares the common goal to tackle mismanaged plastic waste. Collaboration between government, industry, civil societies, academia and the wider community is key to finding the best solutions. To ensure that the environment is protected, the final agreement must be based on evidence. The UK plastics industry is very serious about its environmental responsibilities. It will continue to invest in material innovation and in recycling technology.
