New Delhi, May 9 (SocialNews.XYZ)A delegation of nine MPs from various states and parties are currently visiting University of Chicago scholars and policymakers.
The Energy Policy Institute at University of Chicago (EPIC), India hosts the delegates. This is “with the aim to enhance the capacity of India’s political leadership in advancing policy that provides lasting environmental benefits.” Between May 8-12.
“Some MPs reached May 7 and others May 8. “Their formal engagements commence on Monday Chicago time,” an EPIC official informed IANS here Monday.
This is the third edition. The MPs include Rajya Sabha members Amar Patnaik (Biju Janata Dal), Priyanka Chaturvedi (Shiv Sena) and C.M. Ramesh (Bharatiya Janata Party), and Lok Sabha members Brijender Singh, Shivkumar Udasi , Rahul Kaswan, Heena Gavit (all Bharatiya Janata Party), Kotagiri Sridhar (YSR Congress Party), and Ritesh Pandey (Bahujan Samaj Party).
“Innovative policy works when policymakers are willing to experiment. We have worked for many years in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Odisha, Bihar and other Indian states and we know that Indian legislators have pioneered innovative policies to balance India’s growth story and environmental concerns. We are excited to share best practices and join them for accelerating positive change in India for citizens,” Michael Greenstone, the Milton Friedman-Distinguished Service Professor in Economics, and director of EPIC, stated.
The Indian MPs will interact with University of Chicago faculty and experts in wide-ranging policy areas such as climate policy, air pollution, and water Quality. They will also interact with University of Chicago students.
“As we learn from our MPs’ experiences, we are also trying share EPIC India’s global research findings to coidentify priorities and possible solutions that could be implemented within individual constituencies. Sidhartha Vermani, EPIC India’s Executive director, stated that the goal is to also conduct groundbreaking research that addresses local and global challenges.
