Chinese commerce ministry issue statement following the ban on 54 applications and searches in premises of Huawei telecom company

China’s Ministry of Commerce asked India on Thursday to improve its business environment, and ensure non-discriminatory treatment of Indian firms. This follows a ban on Chinese apps and tax probes into Chinese telecom and mobile companies.
India, which has already banned more than 200 Chinese apps due to security concerns, announced this week a further ban on 54 apps. A number of offices of Huawei, a Chinese telecom giant, were searched in the past week. This was in response to similar tax investigations into Xiaomi’s mobile maker.
Gao Feng, spokesperson for the Chinese Commerce Ministry, stated that Indian authorities had taken several measures to suppress Chinese companies in India and their products. This has seriously damaged the legitimate rights of Chinese companies.
China expressed serious concern over this, he was quoted saying at a Beijing press conference by China News Service. He added that the Ministry has noticed foreign investors, including Chinese, are also becoming more concerned about India’s investment environment.
He stated that Indian foreign investors have created large numbers of employment opportunities and contributed to Indias economic growth. He also said that China and India are both important economic and trading partners.
He stated that the economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries is strong and has great potential. He also pointed out that bilateral commerce reached a record $125.7billion in 2021. He added that it is hoped that India can take concrete steps to sustain the sound development momentum of bilateral economy and trade cooperation, and to the benefit of both countries.
