The Air Quality Program (AQP) is looking to fill the Climate Change Climate Commitment Act Communications Consultant (Communications consultant 3) position. This position will be located at the Headquarters Building in Lacey, WA.
   
The mission of Air Quality Program (AQP) is to protect and improve air quality in Washington and to protect our State’s environment for current and future generations. Washington is in the process of building only the second economy-wide cap and invest program in the United States, and Air Quality’s newly created Climate Commitment Act Implementation Group is leading the design and implementation of this program.  Businesses and entities will have to purchase allowances linked to their emissions. They can then be sold, traded, and bought.  The market will open on January 1, 2023. Proceeds will be used to invest in initiatives to decarbonize transportation, other sectors, promote clean energy, advance equity, and ensure environmental justice.  
 
As the Climate Commitment Act (CCA) Communications Consultant 3, you’ll ensure that the meaningful work being done on the CCA is communicated to stakeholders, Tribes, environmental justice groups, and the general public in a clear and engaging way. This role will allow you to work with a wide range of mission-driven planners and engineers, outreach specialists, as well as other communications professionals, to ensure that Ecology provides education resources, transparency, public engagement opportunities, and transparency to Washington residents.
 
This dynamic role includes a variety of challenging but rewarding duties such as developing presentations, designing and creating graphic and video content, creating informational materials for Ecology’s website, and leveraging social networks to increase public engagement. You will help develop and implement a robust long-term communications strategy to help educate the public about the CCA, what Ecology is doing to implement this important program, and what it means for Washington’s low-carbon future.

Duties

Duties: 
As the Climate Commitment Act Communication Consultant, you will:

  • Produce and edit strategic web content.
  • Create visual and written content that explains key concepts to audiences with varying levels of knowledge. This could include infographics and videos (live or animated), posters, bulletins or conference displays, brochures or any other digital or physical publications. 
  • Use Canva and PowerPoint to create presentations about the implementation of CCA.
  • Prepare testimony, presentations, and focus sheets in collaboration with communications, outreach and senior staff. 
  • Collaborate with web, communications, or other staff to publish materials that explain complex issues in plain language. 
  • Assist in the setting up, running, and scheduling of public meetings.        
  • Prepare content to be used on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for public education and engagement relating to the CCA.
  • Work collaboratively to develop and implement a long-term social media strategy to bring the CCA to broader public awareness, while remaining in-line with Ecology’s brand, visual, and social media best practices.

 

Qualifications

Six (6) years of experience and/or education

  • Education: Journalism, communications, public relations and news media. English, marketing, humanities or closely related fields.
  • Experience including, but not limited to: Journalism, public relations/information, news media, digital/social media, marketing, digital accessibility or writing/editing

Option 2

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, news media, digital/social media, English, marketing, humanities, or closely allied field 
  • Two (2) years of experience as mentioned above.


Option 3:

  • Master’s degree in In journalism, communications, public relations, news media, digital/social media, English, marketing, humanities, or closely allied field.
