Column: Protect the Big Lake From the Next Environmental Disaster

The Springfield hopper currently targets two toxic coal-ash ponds at NRG Energy’s Waukegan Generating Station just a few yards from Lake Michigan. In January, state senator Adriane Johnson (D-Buffalo Grove), and state rep. Rita Mayfield (D–Waukegan), filed similar bills to ensure the city isn’t tied with a future Superfund site.
