Commissioner for the Environment calls for compliance with the needs and interests of the planet

Klelia Vasiliou (Commissioner for the Environment), said that the need to meet the needs of the planet has never been more urgent. She spoke on Saturday at Earth Hour.

She stated that the air we breathe has been deteriorating, and there is a lot of discussion about water and food security, especially after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Vasiliou spoke to students who participated in Earth Hour events across the country, saying that humanity must once again stand on the right side of history. She stated that each person’s life is very important, and this is dependent on the quality and quantity of the environment in their lives.

She also stated that the Recovery Fund, Biodiversity strategy, and the Strategy for Climate are all part of the Presidents initiative to create an action plan to address the climate crisis in our region. This plan, which includes the countries who recognize we are in the redzone, creates financial tools, and provides incentives at all levels for our Green Transformation.

She stressed the need for more trees to be planted and to not consume materials that increase the volume unmanageable waste.
