Nathaniel Garner, nine-year-old, is wise beyond age. Fourth-grader at Clements/Parsons Elementary is already thinking about his future and the future for the environment.

Garner is a Cub Scout Pack 251 Cub Scout from Copperas Cove. He has been influenced by the Leave No Trace and other projects to interact with nature in a positive manner. The youngster went one step further to care for Mother Earth by entering the junior mister division at the 8th Annual Miss Five Hills Scholarship Pageant.

Garner, who was crowned 2021 Junior Mister five Hills, stated, “I entered the pageant as I knew that if it won, I would have multiple opportunities to do community service.” As a member the royalty family, I have participated at many events, including multiple parades, Puppy Pawlooza and the Autism Awareness Walk.

Garner chose Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful to be his platform of service and committed to working with the organization throughout his yearlong reign.

KCCB was chosen by me because I am passionate about protecting the environment and making it safe for everyone. Nathan said that if we do not care about our environment now, there will be nothing for our future generations. As a cub Scout, I enjoy many outdoor activities including camping outs and nature walks. I have seen a lot of trash while on these hikes. This makes me sad. I also see a lot more trash in the community.

I have been involved in many activities throughout my reign. But, the Clean-up Events hosted by Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful have been my favorite. We have planted trees at the police station, removed graffiti, and picked-up trash from all over the city. My family has also participated in these clean-up events. I was happy to share my passion for cleaning up the environment with them. I also collected crayons and markers from schools in my district. Crayola will recycle the used markers and crayons, while the crayons will be used for crafts at the KCCB Spring Fling.

Garner will crown his successor on March 26 at the 9th Annual Miss Five Hills Scholarship Pageant.

Garner stated that even after my reign as Junior Miss Five Hills is ended, I intend to continue to be involved with Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful, and participate in as many clean-up events as possible. I enjoyed my time as Junior Master Five Hills and will cherish these memories for the rest of my life.
