BRENTWOOD, Tenn., 11 April 2022 (GLOBE NETWORKIRE) — CoreCivic, Inc., today released its 2021 Environmental, Social and Governance reportThis shows how the company was able to remain committed to its mission of improving the public good during the second year COVID-19. This is CoreCivic’s fourth annual report since 2019.

CoreCivic’s 2021 reentry program was a success. CoreCivic built relationships with community partners to provide educational and vocational training opportunities for residents. This also includes online learning opportunities to protect everyone from COVID-19 transmission. These opportunities will help residents succeed after being incarcerated.

CoreCivics recently adopted human rights policy, and the goals that will guide their operations in the future are all included in the report. It shows how CoreCivic collaborated and formed new partnerships with community stakeholders, such as the Frederick Douglass Project for Justice, to facilitate interaction between residents and members. It also shows how CoreCivic provided innovative solutions for government partners, such as a renewable three year lease agreement with New Mexico that allows the state to assume operations at the Northwest New Mexico Correctional Center, while CoreCivic manages the facility.

CoreCivic’s environmental footprint and efforts to reduce its waste as well as its water and energy consumption are also detailed in the report. The report also outlines CoreCivic’s new diversity equity and inclusion (DEI), roadmap that outlines how the company will create an environment of understanding among employees as well as a pipeline of diverse leadership talent to ensure that the company at all levels is representative of its employees and the communities it serves.

Damon Hininger, president, and CEO of CoreCivic, stated that the company held firm despite the frustrating reality of a stubborn, resurgent pandemic in order to fulfill our mission to improve the public good. CoreCivic’s ESG efforts over time were also highlighted in the report. Newsweek included CoreCivic on its list America’s Most Responsible Businesses in 2021.

Other topics covered in the report include:

  • CoreCivics flexible pandemic strategy was a success. This led to an aggressive education campaign to help residents and staff understand the importance of COVID-19, which can save lives.

  • CoreCivic facilities launched reentry programmes across the country, including a culinary program at Lake Erie Correctional Institution (Ohio), a computer programming program at Red Rock Correctional Center (Colorado) and a Crowley County Correctional Facility carpentry course in Colorado.

  • Community networking programs that help residents, such as the Cheyenne Transitional Center, Wyoming, connect with each other and match them up with jobs,

  • CoreCivic Foundations $700,000. This commitment will go to organizations that increase access to education and support minority-owned business.

  • CoreCivic Foundations support Thurgood Marshall College Fund for research by Historically Black Colleges and Universities. These institutions are working to identify opportunities in criminal justice, education and economic movement.

  • The Coalition to Back Black Businesses is supported by the CoreCivic Foundations

  • CoreCivics multiyear partnership to the Prison Fellowships Warden Exchange Program. A residency and online professional development program that allows wardens and reentry professionals to share best practices and solve problems in a peer-group format, this program is part of CoreCivics’ multi-year partnership.

  • CoreCivics advocates for federal and state legislation to reduce recidivism for returning citizens. This includes 700 letters of support for 24 bills that cover reentry policy areas within Connecticut, Iowa, Maryland Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota and Nevada.
