Director of New Norris University Center to create an inclusive environment

Corbin Smyth, the next Northwestern University executive director of the university, has been appointed Norris University CenterIn the Division of Student Affairs. Smyth has been hired after a nationwide search. He will begin his duties on June 27,

Smyth currently serves as the University of Minnesota Duluth associate vice-chancellor for student life. His portfolio includes several student union programs and services, as well as auxiliary operations. He has dedicated his entire career to creating inclusive communities through facilities and programs on college campuses.

He has managed conferences, orientations, small and large events, as well as student activities such as bowling and billiards, outdoor recreation programs and student building manager programs. He also managed building renovations and expansions.

He is skilled at managing relationships with multiple constituent and stakeholder groups. He also has a collaborative leadership style. He is committed to working with campus colleagues to remove obstacles and create inclusive environments that benefit all students, faculty, staff, and the community.

Smyth oversaw Minnesota Duluth’s student union, student fees self-operated meals, parking operations and sustainability office. He also overseen trademarks, trademarks and a self-operated bookshop, print shop, as well as an ID card operation.

Smyth said, “I have served throughout all of my career as a college union and auxiliary role, all while being closely connected to students and my university community. Serving the Northwestern students and community in Norris is an amazing opportunity. It will allow me to make connections with many high-achieving colleagues from Norris, Student Affairs, and elsewhere at the University.

Since 1972, the Norris University Center has been the center of student activity at Northwestern.
