Olam has named Dr Shailendra Maishra, a conservation scientist and ecologist, as the head of climate environment and natural resources.
Mishra joins the Singapore-based Agribusiness Firm after spending more than four year with Asian School of Environment, Singapore. There, he was a specialist on nature-based solutions for different systems, including agriculture.
Mishra assumes leadership of Olam Groups global corporate sustainability strategy. This includes climate action as well as regenerative farming and ecosystems workstreams.
“As a conservation and ecology scientist, I have always been passionate about developing nature-based solutions and how these solutions can enhance socio-economicoutcomes,”he wrote on LinkedIn. “I look forward to contributing to the overall Olam Groups vision to be nature-, climate- and livelihood-positive.”
Mishra has been a research fellow at Nanyang Technological University as well as a postdoctoral fellow at Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (NUS Environmental Research Institute) over his career.
AmongMishra’s most recent Scientific papers was a review of the state of Southeast Asia’s peatlands, and the best ways to manage and restore them.
Mishra holds a doctorate from the National University of Singapore about the ecological drivers of tropical peatland oxygenation and the causes of peatland greenhouse gas emissions.
