Environment Canada: Extreme cold warning in force

Environment Canada reports that wind chill values between minus 35 & minus 40 are possible this morning.

Extreme Cold Warning in force for:

  • Agawa – Lake Superior Park
  • Sault Ste. Marie – St. Joseph Island
  • Searchmont – Montreal River Harbour – Batchawana Bay
  • Wawa – Pukaskwa Park
  • White River – Dubreuilville

The coldest period continues.

Hazard:
Wind chill values can range between minus 35 and 40.

When:
This morning.

Impacts:

Young children, older adults, those with chronic illnesses, people who exercise outdoors or work outside, and those without shelter are at greater risk.

Look out for symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath and muscle pain and weakness. Also, look out for numbness or colour changes in fingers and toes.

Cover up. Frostbite can form quickly on exposed skin, especially in the face of wind chill.

If it is too cold outside, it is too cold outside for your pet.
