Environment Canada: Extreme cold warning in force

Environment Canada reports that wind chill values between minus 40 & minus 45 are possible this morning.

Environment Canada has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for Timmins, and the surrounding area.

When temperatures drop, people in need of emergency shelter can go to Living Space, 316 Spruce St. S., Timmins. Contact 705-531-7233 if you know someone who is in dire need of shelter.

Extreme Cold Warning in Effect for:

  • Little Abitibi – Kesagami Lake
  • Timmins-Cochrane-Iroquois Falls
  • Kirkland Lake- Englehart
  • Temiskaming Shores – Temagami
  • Fraserdale – Pledger Lake
  • Kapuskasing – Hearst – Smooth Rock Falls

Wind chill values can range from minus 40 to minus 45.

This morning.

Impacts:

Young children, older adults, those with chronic illnesses, people who exercise outdoors or work outside, and those without shelter are at greater risk.

You should be aware of symptoms like shortness, chest pains, muscle pains and weakness, numbness, and colour changes in fingers or toes.

Cover up. Frostbite can occur in minutes on exposed skin, especially when there is wind chill.

If it’s too cold to go outside, it’s too frigid for your pet.
