Environment Canada issued an extreme freeze warning Monday afternoon for most of Saskatchewan.
Only the southwest corner is exempted from the extreme cold warning.
Environment Canada describes the statement as a multi-day episode with very cold wind chills.
The extreme cold arctic air masses that have been moving over the southern region of the province is causing the high temperatures.
Saskatchewan Monday night will see wind chills as high as -40 to 45 degrees. Conditions are expected to continue until mid-week.
Environment Canada reminded residents that extreme cold can put everyone at risk. It also warned that conditions like frostbite and hypothermia will be more common during this cold spell.
Environment Canada asks residents of the province to report severe weather by sending an email to [email protected], or tweeting reports using #SKStorm
As arctic air settles in the province, it is expected to be cold for a few days. Tonight’s wind chills will reach the -40s and the cold will continue through the week. Keep warm and be aware of any signs or symptoms of cold-related illness. @CTVRegina #SaskWX pic.twitter.com/gQPke3dh19
