Environment Canada issues extreme cold warning for parts of B.C. near Alberta
Arctic air mass combined with a north wind is bringing wind chill values near -40 C to the Peace River region
Environment Canada has issued extreme cold warnings for several parts of British Columbia along the Alberta boundary.
According to the Weather Agency, an Arctic air mass combined in with a northwind is bringing wind chill values close to -40 C to the Peace River area, including Fort St. John and Dawson Creek.
The cold was expected to last until Tuesday before warming up on Wednesday.
To the south, a warning was issued for Elk Valley, Kootenay, and Yoho national park. Environment Canada has stated that wind chill values of near -35 are expected overnight and Tuesday night.
It stated that moderate temperatures were expected during the daytime.
The weather agency warns that wind chills near -40 can cause frostbite in minutes and increase the risk of hypothermia.
It says that overnight wind chills of -10 to 15 degrees Celsius were expected in Metro Vancouver, Howe Sound, and the Fraser Valley, until temperatures rise later in the week.
