Environment Canada issued a weather advisory Tuesday morning at 10:47 am. It stated that weather hazards could include snow and ice accumulations of two to five centimetres.

It is expected that the ice will cover everything in its path, creating ice roads and causing power outages.

Forecasters foresaw strong easterly winds gusting up 60 km/h [and]Low-lying areas may experience flooding if rainfall exceeds 10-20 mm.

Rain is expected to replace the heavy icy precipitation later in the day.

Freezing rain is possible beginning Wednesday afternoon or morning. Freezing rain could turn to rain Wednesday afternoon or night. Environment Canada stated that areas near Lake Ontario’s shores are likely to remain above freezing and should receive only rain.

The region is only a few days into spring so much of it is still frozen. This will encourage rain runoff.

The forecaster suggested that partially frozen ground could have a reduced capacity to absorb rain and that flooding in low-lying areas might be possible.

According to the federal weather service, those who live in low-lying areas are advised to visit Ontario.ca/floods. This site provides current information about flooding concerns.
