After a very cold and snowy winter, temperatures are beginning to rise. This means that there is the possibility of light showers.
Environment Canada says that we will see a system moving through the region this week. What type of precipitation? Temperature will play a major role in this as we hover at 0 degrees Celsius during the day.
Gerald Chang, Environment Canada Meteorologist, commented on the amount snow we have currently. I do know how much is on ground right now and it’s about 40cm.
The average March length should be 23cm. Last year, we had traceability [amounts of snow]He said that there was a marked difference in the way things have changed from last year.
We received approximately 8 cm of snow this weekend, according to environment Canada.
Chang shared some thoughts about this week’s events. I think we will need to be vigilant for any disturbances that may be coming through the region, particularly Tuesday and Wednesday.
He stated, “Right now, if you look at the temperature forecast,” and that the seasonal range is what we are referring to. Our seasonal high should be at 0 degrees Celsius. However, if we look at the weeklong weather forecast, our daytime peak should be at or above 0 degrees Celsius.
Chang responded to a question regarding the possibility of rain. Chang stated that whenever there are disturbances, we need to look at the temperatures. It is the temperatures that determine the type of precipitation.
He said, “Considering that we are seeing daytime highs that are higher than normal, you can be sure that showers are possible.” We do see it on Tuesday and Wednesday right now.
However, snow is not out of the picture. Chang concluded by saying that although nighttime temperatures can hover around 0° Celsius, nighttime lows should be between 11° Celsius and 12° Celsius. Snow is still possible, Chang added.
