Special weather statement in force for:

  • Sault Ste. Marie – St. Joseph Island
  • Searchmont – Montreal River Harbour – Batchawana Bay

A mix of snow, ice pellets, and freezing rain is likely Wednesday.

Hazards:
Freezing rain with significant amounts of ice accumulation
Untreated surfaces like roads, parking lots, and walkways could become slippery.

Timing:
Beginning Wednesday morning. Ending Wednesday evening.

Discussion:
A mixture of snow and ice pellets will be moving into the area Wednesday morning, and will continue into the evening. Wednesday afternoon is likely to see significant freezing rain and ice accumulation. Power outages are more likely if there is strong wind gusts between 60 and 70 km/h.

There is still uncertainty about the timing and extent of snow, ice pellets, and freezing rain. As the system approaches, a freezing rain warning may be necessary.

Thursday is also susceptible to significant rainfall and strong wind.

Wednesday and Thursday could see significant snowfall and freezing rain.

Hazards:
Rapidly accumulating powder snow. Maximum snowfall of 15 to 25 cm.
Frosty rain possible
Reduced visibility in heavy snow.

Timing:
Wednesday morning through Thursday

Discussion:
Snow will fall Wednesday morning, and it is expected that it will turn to ice pellets by the afternoon. Snowfall totals and ice pellet accumulations of up to 25 cm will be possible by Thursday afternoon, when snow tapers off or turns to rain. Also, Wednesday afternoon and evening could see freezing rain. It is uncertain how much snowfall will be recorded and where freezing rain will occur. As the system approaches, a snowfall warning or winterstorm warning may be necessary.
