Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr., Partido Federal ng Pilipinas Standard-Bearer, stressed again that environment protection and preservation are top priorities for the BBM Sara UniTeam.
Marcos pointed out that he and his running mate Mayor Inday, Sara Duterte share a strong stand to preserve and protect the environment. This includes a call for strengthening the country’s response to climate change.
She is also a strong advocate. He stated that this is why this will be a top priority for our administration.
Marcos also noted that the country is prone to natural and man-made disasters like landslides, while flooding caused by strong typhoons can devastate large areas.
“Nature has its rights that should be protected. It should be allowed the opportunity to thrive, reproduce, and achieve its abundance in perfect harmony with human civilization. We should do this if we want to safeguard the most vulnerable members of our society from the onslaught of natural calamities,” he also said.
Earlier in the morning, Kalikasan Peoples Network for the Environment (Earth activist) and Bayan Muna (leftist group) staged a brief rally at the BBM headquarters along EDSA.
This rally was the culmination of the protest caravan they led against Kaliwa Dam, and other large-scale dams and water projects in celebration of the International Day of Action for Rivers.
Kaliwa Low Dam is a 600 MLD dam that aims at ensuring water security and increasing the raw water supply to meet the future potable-water demand of Metro Manila. It also reduces dependence upon the Angat Dam.
However, residents of the affected area are against its construction.
It was approved in 2012 by the Aquino administration.
