The topic of the next BGSU Science Café will be Silicon as a Material Block for Influencing Positive Environment Transformation. It will be livestreamed Tuesday April 19, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Dr. Joseph Furgal is an assistant professor of Chemistry and researcher at the Center for Photochemical Sciences. He will discuss how silicon-based materials have the potential to positively impact the environment. Smart sponge pollutant remediation perfluoroalkyls [PFAS], aromatic hydrocarbons, as well as nano plastics. There are also methods to synthesize silicon-based chemicals using greener methods, such as silicon computer chips that allow for upcycling of silicone polymer products.
This is the first in a series of events that will highlight the important work being performed by BGSU researchers to improve the quality life in our region, state and the world.
