By John Faucher, Robert Cloud
Multiple fire departments responded to GLF Green For Life Environmental Services. Previously Graichen Sanitation, it is located in Mukwa about 4 miles west of New London, on State Highway 54.
Shortly after 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 30, fire departments were dispatched at E8257 State 54.
The firefighters arrived to find a 40-foot-by-60 foot maintenance shop in flames.
Two garbage trucks were also inside the structure and were on fire.
The trucks and the structure were both destroyed.
The New London firefighters were on the scene up to 8 p.m.
No injuries were reported. The shop was not occupied at the time.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this point.
Eye witnesses claimed that the Press Star flames from a fire in a building just behind the new office complex could have been seen 40 feet up from State 54 at 5:15 p.m.
Minutes later, Waupaca County Sheriffs officers blocked traffic on a mile stretch of State 54 between Northport Convenience Center and the Pine Tree Supper Club.
From Weyauwega Road, you could see flames and a large plume of smoke in the night sky. Larry Road is just west of this scene.
The scene was made even more congested by the steady stream of detour traffic and onlookers.
New London Fire Departments aerial ladder trucks could be seen from a mile away, spraying water onto the rooftop of the blazing building.
Numerous fire departments and the Gold Cross Ambulance were present on the scene.
