First ever standards for gold mining in Egypt announced by the Environmental Minister

Yasmine Fouad (Egyptian Environment Minister) announced that Egypt is cooperating in setting environmental standards for the exploration, extraction and mining of gold in Egypt.

There are over 30 national projects that address climate change, she said. All of them aim to transfer the environment’s value to other ministries.

Fouad revealed on Sunday that some of the projects are related to tourism. However, certain tracks in some projects have been modified to be more environmentally-friendly such as waste management or retraining.

The Environment Minister stated that the language used for dialogue with people on environmental issues is not being used. He said that the state wants to change this language through various projects that are in the public interest.

She stated that the ministry also aims for citizens to be involved in environmental issues. Additionally, the rate at which people are contacted and their complaints is above 96 per cent.
