A Frenchman hit the jackpot and decided to make an impact with his earnings. The retired Frenchman, who was nicknamed “Guy” by the French lottery group, won a staggering €200 million ($217 million) in December 2020. It was a record for EuroMillions at the time. Guy returned most of his winnings to the environment, even though some would spend their winnings on expensive cars and real estate.

The majority of his winnings were used to create the Anyama foundation. It was named after a town in Ivory Coast where he spent many of his childhood years. Its main goals are to preserve and revive forests, regenerate biodiversity and support family caregivers. Guy said: Le ParisienIn a recent interview, he stated that he had been considering starting a foundation before he won the lottery. He actually only played in large jackpot lotteries with the intention of using the money for the foundation.

Anyama’s website describes how his drive to help the environment started while he was still living in the Ivory Coast. He witnessed trucks loaded with Burkina Faso tree-cutting trucks moving back and forward. This impression prompted him to take action. He has poured all his earnings into the foundation.

He knew what he had do after his good fortune began to sink in. “The minute I found out I was the lucky winner of the EuroMillions, I had the will to share my luck,” he Share. “My dream has never been to acquire boats, castles, or other sports cars, it is to be useful and to give meaning to this money, with maximum positive impact.”
