“From Zero Cost To Zero Waste”: Creative Palestinian Women Help Save Environment – Occupied Palestinian Territories

The project, called “From Zero Cost To Zero Waste”, aims to raise awareness about how we can save the environment by recycling domestic waste. It also helps women in the affected areas to increase their income by selling products at a low cost.

Climate change is already causing human suffering around the globe. The crisis could have a profound impact on many aspects of our lives. Unfortunately, the most vulnerable people will be hardest hit.

The ICRC supports populations that are dealing with the dual shocks caused by conflict and climate change. The ICRC in Israel, the Occupied Territories and The Child Care Society in Ramallah are highlighting stories about Palestinian women who care about the environment, and want to save it by reducing domestic waste.

We hired trainers with experience in recycling and reusing household rubbish to help them achieve their goal. The trainers led workshops for women in the West Bank and mentored them for two months to help them develop the knowledge and skills necessary to convert domestic waste into products that can go on the market. They learned how to make everything from plastic bags to old wires and glass bottles, old clothes, soap bars, soap bar pieces, and even used frying oils new with a little creativity.
