Daily Herald correspondent

Bunting was displayed around Glen Ellyn Civic Center to pay tribute to Joe Wark (former Village President), who died Sunday at the young age of 89.

Glen Ellyn Village Manager Mark Franz stated that while we are saddened by the passing of Mr. Wark, we are honored to have had the privilege of knowing him. “He was a champion for our community and broke down barriers. His family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Wark started working for the village in the late 1980s as an advisory commissioner after he retired from the BNSF Railroad. After serving four years as village trustee, Wark was elected village president in 1997.

Wark has been a resident since 1976. After his tenure ended, he continued to be active in the village, serving as an advisor on the Conservation Foundation Advisory Board and the DuPage County Stormwater Committee.

Wark was also a regular participant and chairman of Glen Ellyn In Bloom.
