GMDA to create an environment management plan for Gurugram City in six months

Officials from the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), said that they are working on a sustainable environment management plan, with a focus on the urban population’s needs until 2041. They also added that the plan will be available by June this year.

Officials at the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), stated on Sunday that they are currently working to create a sustainable environmental management plan with a focus in the urban population needs until 2041. The plan will be completed by June.

Sudhir Rajpal, chief executive of GMDA, stated that the sustainable environment plan will be focused on micro-level interventions in the entire metropolitan area to improve all aspects of the environment, such as greenery, water conservation and measures to reduce pollution. It will be a comprehensive plan for the entire city that will be citizen-centric and will incorporate inputs from the residents.

Rajpal stated that an agency will soon be hired to help with the plan.

The December 2019 environmental management plan for Gurugram was prepared by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, GMDA, and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board. Officials said that the plan did not contain a specification for urban residents and was a generic plan for all of Gurugram.

Subhash Yadav from GMDAs urban environmental division said, “A district management plan exists for Gurugram, but the issues, and challenges, of an urban area, are different than those of the entire district.” The GMDA will prepare an environment management program for the urban area that will take into account the future needs and wants of the population. The mobility plan was created for 2041. We need to understand the environmental challenges and the mitigation measures that will be offered.

Officials stated that next week will see an expression of interest to hire an agency to develop the plan.
