BATON ROUGEToday, Governor. John Bel Edwards was present before the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to discuss the importance of coastal restoration in the face climate change. Gov. Edwards specifically addressed work at the state level to rebuild Louisiana’s coastline in the face multiple hurricanes and the ongoing climate crises.
Below is an excerpt from his submitted testimony
Louisiana has developed an ecosystem program that is as innovative and forward-thinking as any other plan. We are trying to restore a coastal ecosystem that supports over two million people, billions in industrial investment, and critical infrastructure. Our coast is crucial to the state and country. It is vital that we restore and protect it.
It is vital that the Corps has the authority to direct the Corps to increase its focus on riverine, coastal, and shoreline ecosystems. This will ensure the sustainability of the State of Louisiana.
