Islamabad: The climate ministry would help to improve the environmental audit of housing projects with the aim of protecting the natural environment against the growing construction activities.
The details show that the federal government created a National Environment Policy, which was fully supported by the provincial governments. Details revealed that the federal government will now work with the provincial governments to ensure an environmental audit of each housing society in order to determine if it is causing harm to the natural environment.
A provincial government official stated that while each province has its own environment division that monitors construction activities and provides oversight, there is no way to conduct an environmental audit of housing projects.
He stated that although the provincial environment wings hold hearings where they listen to the concerns and suggestions of the stakeholders, we want them moving forward and to monitor construction activities that are in compliance with the environmental laws.
He stated that the provincial governments should issue an environmental audit order to all housing societies. Then, strict action should be taken against those who violate the rules. According to the official the property developers are the main beneficiaries of the housing boom, while the natural world is the principal loser.
Malik Amin Aslam, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on Climate Change has stated that We believe that housing policy should not be made outside of the overall context of environmental limitations. All new housing must be built according to standards that minimize environmental impacts.
He stated that green development should offer a powerful opportunity for the past to be abandoned and allow for the creation of new homes in well-planned, sustainable communities.
