How honey bees are helping the environment

Black Hammock Bee Farms of Oviedo claims it rescues more 500 honeybee colonies each year from extinction.  The bees are taken back to their rescue yard where they are given extra attention to ensure they survive the relocation.

According to the USDA pollinators are responsible for one third of all food we eat, most often honeybees.   Black Hammock bee farms are currently going through rehabilitation. They will then be reintroduced to honey production and pollination.

Friday is Earth Day, and FOX 35 celebrates it all week.  FOX 35 meteorologist Allison Gargaro visited Black Hammock Bee Farms.  Local students also joined us to learn about the importance bee colonies have for the environment.
