The default home menu environment for Oculus Qest 2 is undoubtedly pleasant: the idyllic setting sun paints mountains a warm yellow-yellow and the sky a soft pink. However, anything can become boring if you stare at it for too long. Sometimes, you don’t want hot air balloons and palm trees in your eyes. Perhaps you just want to visualize yourself in VR, perhaps by lighting a fire in a cozy winter lodge.
Meta’s got your back: The Quest 2 comes preloaded loaded with many options for customizing your home menu. You can also sideload your own home menu options if you are not satisfied by the pre-installed options. Instead of Meta’s cyberpunk space station or cyberpunk garrison, why not play Beat Saber at the Star Destroyer’s bridge or in a Pokémon Gym?
Here are some tips to make Quest 2 more user-friendly.
1. Open your App LibraryFrom the right side of your Quest’s main menu.
2. Find the Quest’s Settings Open the app in your App Library.
3. Open the Personalization settings.
4. Select the home environmentThat’s what you want.
To save space, the majority of the available environment are not pre-loaded on Quest. Therefore, you will have to install them. We recommend that you only install one or two environments at a time as they can quickly eat up storage space. Once the environment has been installed, select the environment you want and enjoy!
Sideloading custom home settings onto your OculusQuest 2

Sideloading a custom environment to your Quest 2 is possible in many ways, but SideQuest mobile and desktop apps are the easiest. This tutorial will show you how to install SideQuest mobile or desktop app if you don’t have it. Sideload content onto your Quest. You will also need to enable developer mode.
Once your headset is ready for custom content, you can add Quest 2 environments.
1. Install Sidequest on your desktop or mobile device.
2. Open up Sidequest.
3. Scroll down in the main menu to see where it says Browse Categories.
4. Scroll through the list of categories until the one you want is found Custom Homes category.
5. Click on the custom house you want to sideload onto Quest. SideQuest page.
6. Click the Pink buttonThis is the meaning of “Install.“
The sideloaded environments will be displayed on your Meta Quest along with the rest of Meta’s default home environments. You can access them and set them up as your default home environment by following the same steps: go to Personalization and select your new digs.
