I-79 Media Consults offers to rewrite the narratives of Environmental Crimes in Nigeria

ONE of Nigeria’s top media training centers I-79 Media ConsultsIt is currently seeking applications to its training project, Rewriting the Narratives of Environmental Crimes In Nigeria.

The idea behind the project is to increase efforts in mainstreaming reports on environmental crimes, climate change, and biodiversity.

It aims at equipping 20 journalists with the knowledge necessary to understand environmental crimes, climate changes, and biodiversity in Southern Nigeria.

Selected participants will attend a three-day online training with the theme Environmental Crime Reporting in Southern Nigeria: Issues and Perspectives, slated for March 17 – 19, 2022.

I-79 Media Consults with support from ERC will create an environment where journalists who are not able to access media opportunities for environmental crime reporting can learn.

After the training, each participant will receive small grants for reporting projects on their campus and/or in their local communities.

The investigative reports will appear in the respective press outlets, I-79 Medias website and newsletters. “We are also open to further co-publishing this piece on additional platforms,” the organiser added.

Stories pitches can focus on marine life, illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU), fishing, oil and natural resources, illegal mining and forestry, wildlife, pollution, climate changes, and other areas.

Applicants are encouraged to share stories from their immediate area/state that may require less travel.

A select group of journalists will pair selected participants with experienced journalists to mentor and guide them through editing their investigative pieces.

Interested applicants may submit up to three weblinks/evidence from previously published works.

People from under-represented communities and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
