As described in the 2021 ESG report, IBM Impact comprises three pillars: Environmental Impact, Equitable Impact, and Ethical Impact. These values are a part of IBM’s DNA and have shaped the company’s work for its employees, shareholders, and the rest of the world over the past century.

The 2021 IBM ESG Report was released today. It includes our IBM Impact framework and a series of commitments to build transparency and accountability.

Environmental Impact: IBM is committed to conserve natural resources, reduce pollution, and minimize climate-related risks. IBM’s commitments reflect this commitment to: 

  • Zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2030
  • By 2025, 90% of non-hazardous waste will be diverted from landfills and incinerated
  • Start 100 client engagements or research projects that have environmental benefits by 2025

Equitable Impact IBM creates opportunities and spaces for everyone. IBM is committed to increasing diversity, equity, inclusion.

  • Skill 30,000,000 people, all ages, with the new skills necessary for the jobs that will be available by 2030
  • Log 4 million volunteer hours by 2025
  • Invest $250 millionUp to 2025 in apprenticeships and new collar program 
  • DedicationBy 2025, 15% of its first-tier supplier spends to Black-owned Suppliers

Ethical Impact IBM aims to enhance innovations, policies, and practices that prioritize ethics, trust, transparency, and – above all – accountability. IBM’s commitments reflect this.

  • Up to 1,000 ecosystem partners will be trained in technology ethics by 2022
