India renews focus on environment protection, climate justice: Report – ThePrint

New Delhi [India]ANI, 13 April: India, which has been the center of climate justice and environment protection, has renewed its focus on these issues with firm determination in recent years, according to a Saudi Arabian newspaper.

While India’s main conversation topic is still the state of the world, it was uncommon to identify specific time-bound targets for India to address these urgent issues. This mindset has changed dramatically over the last half decade, according to Saudi Gazette.

India’s renewable energy capacity has increased by more than 250 per cent within six years, which is a rapid pace of growth for a developing country with 140 crore individuals. Notably, India is now among the top five countries for installed renewable energy capacity.

India is continuing its tradition of balancing economy and ecology, and it is setting an example to the rest of the world with its ability to protect the environment while not affecting infrastructural developments. India has been a beacon of light, meeting targets far ahead of schedule while no other country has managed to meet the Paris Climate Agreement goals.

The mechanisms like the International Solar Alliance – based in Gurugram- demonstrate how the country has taken upon itself the responsibility of guiding the world towards negotiations on sensitive environmental treaties and agreements.

The country also established the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure Initiative to reflect its global vision. This initiative is designed to protect small islands nations from the existential danger of rising global temperatures and related natural disasters.

India’s World Environment Day celebrations included a call by the government to increase ethanol blending in the country. The government resolved to reach the target of 20% blending in petrol by 2025. This will have a major impact on the environment, as well as the lives and livelihoods of farmers.

E-100 projects were started in pilot areas in different parts of the country to achieve this goal. The government also issued a notification that allowed oil companies to sell 20% ethanol-blended petrol starting in the fiscal year 2023. This will allow for further nurturing of the Bureau of Indian Standards’ (BIS) specifications for higher E-12 and E-15 ethanol blends, according the media outlet.

The country has made great strides in the past half decade, thanks to numerous achievements. At the recent COP 26, India launched the Green Grids Initiative — One Sun One World One Grid — the first international network of global interconnected solar power grids, aimed at enhancing the viability of solar projects as well as reducing carbon footprint by a significant margin.

According to Saudi Gazette, these steps are not only intended to protect the environment but will also increase green investments and create millions more jobs. (ANI)
