New Delhi [India]ANI, April 13, 2013: India, long a hub for climate justice and protection of the environment, has recently refocused its efforts and focused with determination on these issues, according to a Saudi Arabian newspaper.
Although the topic of the environment has been a popular topic in India, it was rare for the country to set specific time-bound targets to address these pressing issues. This mindset has changed dramatically over the past half a century, according to Saudi Gazette.
India’s renewable power capacity has increased more than 250 percent in just six years. This is an impressive rate of growth for a country of 140 million people. Notably, India now ranks among the top five countries worldwide in terms of installed renewable energies capacity.
India is continuing its tradition of balancing economy and ecology, and it is setting an example to the rest of the world with its ability to protect the environment while not affecting infrastructural projects. India has been a beacon of light, meeting targets far ahead of schedule while no other country has managed to meet the Paris Climate Agreement goals.
The International Solar Alliance, based in Gurugram, is an example of how the country has taken on the responsibility to guide the world towards the negotiation of sensitive environmental agreements and treaties.
In keeping with its global vision, the country also created the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure initiative, which aims to protect small island countries from the existential threat posed by rising global temperatures and other natural disasters.
The government of India issued a call for ethanol blending to increase as part of the celebrations of World Environment Day. The government resolved to reach the target of 20% blending in petrol by 2025. This will have a major impact on the environment, as well as the lives and livelihoods of farmers.
E-100 projects have been launched in pilot locations in different parts of India to reach this goal. In addition, the government issued a notification allowing oil companies to start selling 20% ethanol-blended gasoline starting in fiscal 2023. This will enable them to further nurture the Bureau of Indian Standards specifications for higher ethanol blends E-12/E-15, according media outlets.
The country’s achievements over the last half-decade have only pushed it towards greater heights. India launched the Green Grids Initiative — One Sun One World One Grid — at the recent COP 26. This initiative aims to increase the viability of solar projects and reduce carbon footprint by a significant amount.
These steps will not only protect the environment, but they will also encourage green investments and create millions jobs, according to Saudi Gazette. (ANI)
