During a discussion about security in Bosnia and Herzegovina, US State Secretary Antony Blinken stated that maintaining a safe and secure environment for Bosnia and Herzegovina requires an international force with a proper mandate.
The discussion was opened by Jeanne Shaheen, a US Senator who visited BiH last Wednesday.
Blinken stated that I agree with you in that some sort of international force must be established with the proper mandate to ensure that Bosnia and Herzegovina is safe and secure.
Karen Donfried (Blinkens assistant European and Eurasian Affairs), who is currently in Sarajevo, stated that there is no legal or technical reason to postpone the elections in BiH.
The US will not be idle while the current leadership in the Republika Srpska seeks dismantle the state. She added that the US does not want the Republika Srpska to be abolished.
Donfried stated that the US is committed the sovereignty, territorial integrity and multi-ethnic character of BiHs during the meeting with the Bosniak members of the BiHs tripartite presidency, efik Daferovi, and Milorad Ddik.
She also stated that all leaders of BiH must work towards reconciliation and consensus-building through dialog and ensure citizens democratic rights to timely, free, and fair elections.
Donfried stressed that the US would hold responsible all those who subvert the Euro-Atlantic perspective of BiHs through corrupt or destabilising actions.
