Bollywood star Deepika Padukone stated that intimacy on screen is difficult. She credited Shakun Btra for creating a safe space on set of her new movie, ”Gehraiyaan.
“Gehraiyaan” is a drama about modern relationships. It also stars Siddhant and Ananya Panday, as well as Dhairya Karwa. Padukone was full of praise for Batra’s ability to create a safe and secure environment for the film’s intimate scenes at the film’s trailer event.
“Shakun gave me and everyone else the comfort, you feel safe because intimacy is difficult. It is something we have never seen in Indian cinema before.
“So, you can go down that road of intimacy and vulnerability if you know the director’s intentions. Because this is where the characters come from, their experiences and journey. Padukone explained to reporters that it is possible when you feel safe in your environment.
The intimacy director for the film is Dar Gai, a first for a Bollywood movie.
The 36-year old actor stated that ”Gehraiyaan” is a rough film and that she had a lot of personal experiences to play the part of Alisha.
“I want bold, but I also don’t want bold (because) that’s how we understood bold in films… I would say raw. This character is more raw and real than the others. He was emotionally stripped, naked, and vulnerable. To be able to do that on screen, it had a deep source.
“It is not to suggest that I haven’t experienced it before, but to this extent I had the need to really dig into places and visit places that weren’t pleasant experiences from mine as well as dealing mental health issues. All of it together, it came out of a deep place.
Batra answered a question about Dar Gai’s decision to join the film as the intimacy director. He stated that intimacy is a very specialized field and requires a specialist to supervise it, just like choreography and action.
“You have to create an environment in which actors feel confident. According to the filmmaker of ”Kapoor and Sons”, he had read about how intimacy directors play an important role in making films in the West.
“There is a processI thought we should adapt those. My aim was to create a system where everyone feels comfortable. Batra said that whenever we had a crew like a cameraman, we wanted them to have an intimate view.
“We used to treat intimacy as a story, but we now want to treat it like a character. It was important to do the preparation and the details. It was crucial that we had an intimacy director. Dar Gai has made a significant contribution to the film. He said that it was important to show her the same respect we give all HODs. Batra, who was praising Padukone for his contribution to the film, said that he was amazed at the passion and dedication of Padukone.
“It was amazing to see her attempt to play challenging characters at this stage of her career. I can’t imagine this film without her. It was an amazing experience.
“Gehraiyaan” also stars Rajat Kapur and Nasseruddin Shah. Karan Johars Dharma Productions produced the film. It will be released on Prime Video streaming service on February 11.
