Japan and PH strengthen ties to protect the environment – Manila Bulletin

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment Japan, has organized the first Phillippine Japan Environmental Week.

Roy A. Cimatu from DENR stated in a statement that the event would help strengthen the relationship between the two countries, especially on issues such as environmental innovation, waste management, and development.

“Without a doubt, our country continues to face environmental crises such as waste pollution and climate change amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Strong global partnerships and cooperation anchored upon shared vision and goals are vital towards green recovery,” Cimatu said on Feb. 14.

The virtual event, which is supported by the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines and Japan International Cooperation Agency, Business for Sustainable Development and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is expected to host around 1,000 participants from different sectors starting in March. 2 to 4.

Mar. 2 will be the Bilateral Environmental Policies Dialogue, where both countries will discuss key environmental issues like climate change, waste management, as well as strategies to improve cooperation.

Mar. 3, a plenary session on “Action toward Decarbonized and Resilient Society and City to City Collaboration” and online webinars on “Climate Change Transparency Improvement and Climate – Adaptation” will be conducted.
