Josh Cavallo is a big fan of Adelaide United’s inclusive atmosphere ahead of the inaugural Pride Game

Josh Cavallo, the only openly homosexual top-flight professional male player in the world, has praised Adelaide Uniteds decision for the inaugural A-League Pride Game.

United will host the Pride Game in Australia for the first time as an A-League club.

It will involve both the Reds mens’ and womens teams. They will host the Central Coast Mariners as well as the Melbourne Victory at Coopers Stadium.

As a sign of solidarity and support for the LGBTI+ community in Adelaide, the women’s and mens’ players will wear rainbow numbers on the backs of their jerseys.

Cavallo, four months after announcing he was gay, stated: This is a significant date for myself, members the LGBTI+ community, Adelaide United.

Adelaide United is an inclusive environment. It is like one big family.

They have been so supportive of me since my arrival in Adelaide. I couldn’t be more proud of what the club and Pride Cup have done.

Pride Cup will be partnering the Reds to organize match day proceedings that will celebrate and promote inclusion.

Isabel Hodgson from Adelaide United said that the Pride Game would help to raise awareness and advocate about inclusion.

Hodgson stated that it is a great privilege to be part of something that celebrates diversity, and welcomes all walks.

I am confident that this game will have an effect on local clubs and make dressing rooms across the country more welcoming and inclusive.

Reds CEO Nathan Kosmina said that it was an extremely proud moment for Adelaide United and the wider soccer community.

Kosmina said that football is a way to keep Coopers Stadium a safe place for everyone to enjoy the matches.

Adelaide United welcomes everyone, no matter their sexuality, race, gender, socio-economic background.
