KDE Plasma 5.24 LTS desktop environment brings fingerprint support, performance and user interface improvements and more

The open-source KDE Plasma desktop environment for Linux distributions has been released by its developers Plasma 5.24, which introduces a number of performance enhancements, visual tweaks and new features.

It’s also a long term support (LTS) release, which means it will continue to receive bug fixes and other updates until the next major update, which will be Plasma 6.

Plasma 5.24, among other things, brings these changes.

  • Fingerprint authenticationSupport for this feature is now available. You can now enroll up to 10 fingerprints to unlock the device, provide authentication for apps that ask passwords, and run sudo commands from a terminal emulator.

Plasma Mobile also announced the release Plasma Mobile Gear 22.02KDE Plasma now supports the tablet-optimized version of KDE Plasma, v., which adds new features to the phone and tablet. The new features include updates to Settings and Clock, Calendar, Calendar, Dialer, other apps, as well as the Quick Settings panel, Task Switcher, and the Calendar and Dialer.
