Kevin Sligh joins the Interior Department as Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement director

WASHINGTONToday, the Department of the Interior revealed that Kevin M. Sligh Sr. has been appointed the new Director of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement. Kevin will oversee BSEE’s efforts promote safety, protect environment, and conserve offshore resources through strong regulatory oversight and enforcement.

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement plays a crucial role in the Interior Department’s rapid response to the climate crisis. It also helps the nation transition into a clean energy economy that offers good-paying union jobs and preserve and protect America’s lands, water, and wildlife. Secretary Deb Haaland. Kevin’s outstanding public service career, which includes years of service at FEMA, as well as active-duty and reserves servicemen in the U.S Navy and Coast Guard, working on operational readiness and emergency response, will be an invaluable asset to the Department.

I am deeply honored that the Interior Department has chosen me to continue my public service career in the interest of the American people. I have dedicated my life to keeping the people safe. Kevin joins FEMA after having served in a variety role with FEMA including Individual Assistance Division Director and Senior Advisor on Equity. He is also Deputy Regional Administrator. Kevin was Deputy Director of U.S. Coast Guards Office of Marine Environmental Response Policy. He was also Chief of the Incident Management & Crisis Response Division and Area Contingency Plan Program Manager.

Kevin has over 24 years of active duty and reserve experience from his time in the U.S. Navy Coast Guard. He attended college part time throughout his enlisted, commissioned military career. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Excelsior College as well as a Master of Business Administration from Northcentral University.

BSEE is the federal agency that oversees the safety and environmental protection of the offshore energy industry on The Outer Continental Shelf.
