I envy the Prince William Board of County Supervisors. They have a hard job coming up with all the money needed for our county. I’m against the idea of establishing data centers in areas other than the already-designated overlay district for revenue.

If data centers for areas outside of the overlay district are approved, they will be constructed all over the county from areas near Manassas National Battlefield Park up to the Prince William Forest, and beyond.

Why am I against it? THE ENVIRONMENT Research has shown that data centers are harmful when they are built near parks, forests, or other protected green areas. Their carbon footprint is equal to that of aviation. They are a serious threat to forest habitats and have a significant impact on our water supply.

This is supported by a lot of data, many of which you may have heard before. Future generations have a responsibility to protect the environment. This is how we will care for our children, grandchildren, and future generations.

The environment crisis is a serious threat to the planet. It must be mitigated, not added to. A comprehensive plan is needed for the future development of Prince William County. An in-depth study of the environmental impact should be done before any commercial or residential development is allowed to proceed in our county.
