PARIS, February 11, 2011 (Reuters) – Friday’s announcement by the French President Emmanuel Macron’s Department of Environment Protection was made as France hosted the One Ocean’ summit.

“Recognizing that plastic pollution has transboundary effects and the importance of curbing them at their source, the United States of America and France support launching negotiations at 5th United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA), on a global agreement to address plastics’ entire lifecycle and promote a circular economy,” said a statement by Macron’s office.
