Mother Road Brewing Company is awarded for Environmental Excellence

Mother Road Brewing Company Awarded for Environmental Excellence

PHOENIX, Arizona – Mother Road Brewing Company and the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD), were awarded the 2022 Award of Distinction for their public-private partnership in Conserve & Protect Golden Ale. The 40th Annual Environmental Excellence Awards, hosted by non-profit Arizona Forward on March 19, brought together business and civic leaders at Arizona Biltmore Resort. Nearly 100 groups were honored for their contributions to sustainability.

After two years of postponing the event, it was extremely inspiring to see more than 500 guests join us as we celebrated projects submitted during 2020 and 2021,” said Lori Singleton, President and CEO of Arizona Forward. “Sustainability and climate-change issues did not take a back seat to the pandemic, as the projects honored in the awards program continued to demonstrate environmental excellence at its best.

Arizona Forward does a great deal of bringing people together. It was really amazing to build community among the brightest minds working on big issues, said Oliver Adams (Mother Road VP of Operations and Culture). We believe that economic vitality and environmental sustainability go hand-in–hand and that collaborations such as ours with Arizona Game and Fish Department will help us achieve environmental goals.

Mother Road won multiple awards and it was significant that a first-of its-kind U.S. partnership between a wildlife management agency & a brewery was awarded. Conserve & Protect was established in 2019. It has raised over $40,000 to fund on-the-ground wildlife conservation projects, including population surveys of Sonoran desert tortoises or endangered Mt. Graham red squirrels. Conserve & Protect Golden Ale is a Mother Road mainline beer that is sold statewide in bars, restaurants, and grocery stores. This allows wildlife heroes to support AZGFDs mission of conserving and protecting the more than 800 species that call Arizona home.

“The Arizona Game and Fish Department is incredibly grateful to receive such a prestigious award that highlights the importance of on-the-ground wildlife conservation,” said AZGFD Assistant Director Tony Guiles, on hand to accept with Division Coordinator Laura Canaca. He said, “Our collaboration with Mother Road is an example of a successful sustainability model that public-private partnerships can use now and in the future.”

Mother Road recently received the inaugural Green Business Award award from the Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce. This award demonstrates the company’s commitment to environmental projects and practices. Mother Road intends to make Arizona a better place by donating to sustainable causes, using a unique CO2 capture system, and providing used grain from the brewing process for beef in the Tap Room. Concluded Founder and CEO Michael Marquess,” Mother Road wants to be a steward of Arizona so future generations my kids and yours can enjoy real quality of life.”
