Naperville’s Nicor Gas Provides $100K in Environmental Grants

NAPERVILLE (IL) A Naperville-based company has announced that it will grant $100,000 to local environmental stewardship initiatives.

Nicor Gas announced this week the possibility for local not-for profit groups to apply for grants from Nicor to support environmental initiatives. Officials from Nicor announced in a press release that grant applications will be accepted until May 31. Grants will be awarded by June. Each group or organization that is selected will receive grants of up $5,000 this year in order to help them in their efforts.

“At Nicor Gas,” Jackie Nagel (manager of Community Engagement at Nicor Gas), stated in a news release this Wednesday, “We are committed to being environmental stewards. We actively work to preserve our state’s natural legacy.” “Investing money in organizations that share our passion to preserve Illinois’ green space and conservation efforts is one way we can ensure that future generations will enjoy the benefits these projects bring.

Nicor Gas, Illinois’ largest natural gas supplier, stated that it is committed to creating, maintaining, and sustaining 10,000 acres open space in its service region and helping to ensure equal access to cultural, educational and recreational spaces.

The company announced last spring a sustainability program to support the conservation and preservation of 10,000 acres of open ground in northern Illinois. This initiative included initial grants.
